Cancer Screening

Our office is not only dedicated to your smile, we’re also dedicated to the health mouth.  Oral cancer can be life-threatening if not diagnosed and treated early.  At every regular visit a cancer screening of the tongue and mouth are preformed.

As a general rule, if something in the mouth has been causing an irritation or soreness that has not improved in a few weeks in is important to have a dental examination.   symptoms of oral cancer include:

– sores anywhere in the oral cavity

-A spot that does not heal

-an irregular spot like roughness or lump

-numbness or pain anywhere in the mouth or on the lips

-hard to perform normal tongue or mouth movements

Dr Martin performs a quick screening that involves an examination of your mouth to detect cancerous and precancerous conditions. If we find an area of concern, we may refer the patient to a specialist who may preform a brush test or biopsy to rule out any concerns.
